In 1974, NMS began as NANA Commercial Catering during the construction of the Trans Alaska Pipeline System, managing food services for the camps on Alaska’s North Slope.
Building on its success, NANA Commercial Catering, owned by NANA Development Corporation (NDC), and Mannings Alaska began a joint venture to serve pipeline camps at Deadhorse and Sheep Creek. The business continued to thrive, and in 1986, Marriott bought out Mannings. The company name was changed to NANA Marriott.
In 1997, NDC opened its first Marriott hotel franchise, the Courtyard Anchorage Airport. Management of the new hotel, and all subsequent hotels developed by NDC, was assigned to their NANA Marriott joint venture, increasing the service offerings of the burgeoning NANA Marriott.
In 1998, the partnership changed again. Sodexo, an international food services company, purchased Marriott Managed Services, the division of Marriott involved in the partnership with NDC. NDC and Sodexo formed a new partnership to create the current company, NANA Management Services, LLC. In addition to this change, Purcell Security, previously owned and managed by NDC, became part of NMS, once again expanding company capabilities.
Now known as NMS, the company is a limited liability company, owned by NANA North, LLC (51 percent) and Sodexo Alaska, LLC (49 percent). NANA North, LLC is headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska, and is a wholly owned subsidiary of NANA Regional Corporation.
