If you’ve been with NMS for a while, chances are you’ve crossed paths with Scotty Austin. Scotty has been part of the NMS family for over 25 years—and even before that, he spent seven years working for NANA on the North Slope. He began his career as a janitor and, through hard work and dedication, earned his way up to Director of Operations—a role he has proudly held for the past six years.
Scotty was born in Petaluma, California, but moved to Anchorage when he was nine after his dad was hired as a welder on the North Slope, he has called Alaska home ever since.
Scotty is a proud dad of four children. His daughters, Heidi and Kayla, are both thriving—Heidi owns a restaurant in Florida, and Kayla works as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in Wasilla. His younger two, Sara and Ryan, have special needs and bring a wealth of love and energy to their lives. Sara, who also has Mosaic Down syndrome and PTSD, shares Scotty’s passion for music. The two have made attending concerts their special tradition—they’ve seen KISS in Arizona and are headed to California soon to see Def Leppard in August. Ryan, who is nonverbal and lives with multiple conditions, is equally treasured, and Scotty and his wife dedicate their hearts to ensuring both kids receive the support they need each day.
When he’s not at work or traveling to a concert, Scotty loves spending time in the water with his family. Camping has also been part of their family adventures, though it takes some extra planning.
At work, Scotty is recognized for his passion for people and teamwork. One of his greatest achievements has been spearheading NMS’s CIMS (Cleaning Industry Management Standard) certification. For the past eight years, he has ensured we maintain our standards, helping NMS stay aligned with the best practices in the industry.
After more than 30 years with NMS and NANA combined, Scotty knows this company inside and out. He’s always looking for ways to help it grow—whether that’s through new projects, improving operations, or simply working side-by-side with his incredible team.
