From “tundra to table™” we develop creative, carefully researched recipes and programs that maximize value without sacrificing quality or flavor. Our Alaska Native roots and values support our commitment to providing traditional and indigenous foods to our tribal clients. Every day, we see how traditional foods play an integral role not only in keeping indigenous people healthy, but in celebrating and promoting culture, heritage and traditional ways of life.
NMS recognizes the value of providing traditional foods to patients and Elders who visit or rehabilitate at our client’s healthcare facilities. We seek to make indigenous foods available at our client centers because not only do they provide healing and nutritional benefits, but also comfort and cheer, improve the quality of life and promote personalized care.
For colleges and universities, we serve, design and implement fresh and appealing dining options that satisfy the varied culinary tastes and schedules of students, staff and visitors.
For the K-12 school children we serve, we strive to serve healthy and exciting meals with an emphasis on fresh; many of the children in our programs live in rural regions of Alaska, where the value of “fresh” is truly appreciated. Through our award-winning K-12 nutrition programs, we strive to promote early, healthy eating and lifestyle choices when we partner with local school districts, recognizing regional food choices while maintaining federal food guidelines for nutrition.
We collaborate with local programs and businesses to bring locally harvested foods to our students and visitors, reinforcing our “tundra to table™” commitment.
AT NMS, we ensure Elders receive the proper nutrition essential to their well-being. We offer award-winning, tested dining programs developed specifically for Elders and seniors, and we comprehensively train employees to safely and compassionately provide food services in a variety of Elder-focused environments, from independent living communities to long-term care facilities. Our service model provides menus and a human-centered approach that look and feel like home, and we serve traditional and indigenous foods as a mainstay of Elder diet. We also care for Elders and seniors through our housekeeping and laundry services, ensuring consistency throughout our hospitality programs, whether residents are dining or sleeping.
Treating all individuals with respect is an NMS core value—one that we foster by listening, sharing concern for others and seeking to understand the lived experiences of those we serve.
