Paul Smith’s College Safety Fair
LOCATION: Paul Smiths, NY
The Office of Campus, Health Services, and Student Engagement, contracted by NMS, hosted a Campus Safety Fair outside the Joan Weill Student Center at Paul Smith’s College this past September. The Safety Fair allowed attendees to interact with representatives of safety and law enforcement organizations like the New York State Police (NYSP), New York State ECON Police, the NYS Office of Fire Prevention, Citizens Advocate, the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention and the Paul Smiths Gabriels Volunteer Fire Department.
Highlights of the event were a chance to extinguish a simulated fire and test goggles that simulate various levels of blood alcohol content with the NYSP. Stanley, the bloodhound, was onsite for police dog demonstrations, and fairgoers had opportunities to get state hunting regulations and sign up with the volunteer fire department.
Located in the Adirondack Mountains in upstate New York, Paul Smith’s College is anew security account for NMS led by Eastern Region District Manager Sid Moen and Security Manager James Cunningham. Referred by Sodexo, the contract started in May 2022 with a team of seven employees and two openings to make a complete team. Notable successes accomplished in its short months are – establishing clear operating procedures for the campus, problem-solving with local emergency response partners and implementing the NMS Good Catch / Near Miss reporting program.
