VP OF HEALTH, SAFETY, SECURITY & ENVIRONMENT
Craig Clemens has served as vice president of health, safety, security and environment (HSSE) since 2009. Craig is responsible for the strategic direction, operating procedures and the continuous improvement of NMS safety performance.
Craig has established a defined culture of safety for NMS, initiating company-wide programs for training and tracking safety performance. Under Craig’s direction, all NMS employees from senior management to entry level are required to participate in the multi-segment personal safety program, Safestart™. In addition to a focus on personal safety, Craig has initiated job specific training programs, and developed a business recovery plan for the company, utilizing Incident Command and other widely recognized safety programs. NMS received national recognition for its safety performance by the National Safety Council, for 2008. Twenty seven NMS business units were recognized for their individual performance by the Council, followed by a National Safety Leadership Award for overall performance for the company. In addition, in his first year as vice president, Craig also established NMS as a leader in the community for sustainability by initiating waste reduction and recycling programs and receiving Green Star certification for NMS headquarters.
Craig began his career with NMS in 1977 with Purcell Security (now the NMS security division.) Craig worked his way through the ranks assigned to the North Slope, beginning his career as a security officer. Craig’s final position with Purcell before joining the NMS senior management team was security manager, responsible for the day-to-day operations of the unified operations and technical contact for all Purcell security units on the North Slope.
Craig is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) by ASIS International. He is the ASIS Region 1A, assistant regional vice president and serves on the ASIS Hotel, Entertainment and Tourism Council. Craig has also earned the National Safety Council Advanced Safety Certificate and the American Society for Industrial Safety certificate in safety management and executive program in safety management. He also holds an associate of applied science degree from Peninsula College in business computer systems.
